
CHESTER – All three local high schools qualified for the 5A Division II Upper State tournament, but came away from the Region 3-5A tournament empty handed.
The 18-hole tournament was played Tuesday, May 6 at Chester Golf Club and saw region newcomer Indian Land win the tournament with a team score of 296 led by tournament medalist Mason Kucia, who shot a four-under par 68.
Nation Ford was second with a 306 and Clover was third with a 320. Catawba Ridge came in fourth with a 325 and Fort Mill was fifth with a 339. Rock Hill finished the qualifying with a 347 as Northwestern failed to qualify for the Upper State tournament.
The Falcons were led by Justin Wosje with a 75. He was followed by a 76 from Harrison LaPointe and a 77 from Connor Mills. Both Carter Smith and Oliver LaPointe both shot a 78 to finish out the round for Nation Ford. All five of Nation Ford’s golfers made the All-Region team.
Catawba Ridge was led by a 77 from Muller Otto. He was followed with an 81 from Bray Vining and an 83 from Carter Mitten. Niam Sethi shot an 84 to finish the scoring for the Copperheads. Otto made the All-Region team for the Copperheads.
Fort Mill was led by an 80 from Baker Tolentino. Noah Jones shot an 84 and Tyson Shouse finished with an 87 for the Jackets. Both Andrew Blocher and Nich Harper finished with an 88.
The Upper State tournament is also a one-day, 18-hole tournament and will be held at The Club at Brookstone in Anderson on Monday, May 12. The top eight teams from the tournament will move onto the 5A Division II state tournament held on May 19 and 20 at the Cliffs Mountain Course in Greenville County.
All three local teams will have one more regular season match against each other in the Milltown Showdown at Tega Cay Golf Club on May 7.

The Nation Ford baseball team even its playoff series with Easley by winning game two 8-1 to improve to 13-15 overall on the season. The Falcons had 10 hits in game two and were led by Simon Fernandez, who went 3-4 with an RBI. Blake Chatman went 3-3 with an RBI and Alex Smith was 2-4. Cooper Mitchell pitched a complete game three-hitter allowing one run, while walking two and striking out eight. Game three between the two teams is schedule for Thursday, May 8 at Nation Ford.
