A key player in their win, Fort Mill’s Madison McCarty returns the ball during her No. 1 singles match against Boiling Springs.

In a match that lasted more than four hours, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets secured a 4-3 win over the Boiling Springs Bulldogs to improve to 3-1 overall.

Madison McCarty and Katie Pierson won in No. 1 doubles to secure the win. Each team had won three matches forcing the No. 1 doubles match that finally finished up at quarter to 11 p.m. Three of the first six matches went into third set tiebreakers.

The No. 1 doubles match to determine a winner started at 8:30 p.m. and lasted more than two hours. Both McCarty and Pierson split their singles matches against Boiling Springs.

McCarty won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-2 and Sophie Bennett won at No. 3 singles in a three-set match 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6). Fort Mill won just two singles matches and needed wins at both doubles matches to clinch the win. Two of those losses for the Jackets in singles play was in three sets.

In No. 2 doubles, Clare Lake and Katie Hill won 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets to help tie the match. In the No. 1 doubles match, McCarty and Pierson dropped the first set 4-6, but bounced back to tie the match one set apiece with a 7-6 win, before winning the third set 1-0 (10-6).

Fort Mill head coach Angela Struve described the match as, “an incredible night of tennis.”
