Post 43’s Brayden Franse got the win for Fort Mill on the mound as he would go four innings and allow just two runs.

KANNAPOLIS – Fort Mill Post 43 belted out 18 hits in an 11-2 rout of Concord Post 51 Tuesday night on the road.

With the win, Post 43 improves to 9-1 overall as they picked up their second consecutive road win, this time playing in the Tar Heel state at A.L. Brown High School.

Fort Mill collected a hit in every inning as they scored in five of the seven innings, but never had the big inning that has powered them all season.

Patrick Matthews led Post 43 at the plate going 5-5 with six RBI. Matthews hit two triples and a double in the win. Scott Young went 4-5 at the plate as well with two RBI and two doubles.

“I love Patrick at the top of the lineup,” said Post 43 head coach Tom Skula. “He is our table setter and just grinds at bats. Offensively I thought we did a good job of staying in our approach. We laid off on a lot of borderline pitches that allowed us to create offense from them putting us on base.”

Fort Mill scored two runs in the top of the first as Matthews singled to lead off the game. Young would double in both Matthews and Harrison Wilson, who walked to reach base.

Post 43 added a run in the second on a Matthews double scoring Trace White, who singled to lead off the second inning. White went 2-3 in the game as well at the plate.

Fort Mill added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Matthews hit triples in both innings as Post 43 collected eight hits in the two innings. Chase Doughtery, who went 3-5, also drove in a run in the fourth inning. Young added his second double of the game in the fifth inning.

Post 43 finished off their offense in the sixth inning by scoring two more runs with another RBI from Matthews and a RBI from Tyler Levy.

On the mound, Brayden Franse got the start and went four innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two. Dusty Sanderlin finished the game going three innings and allowing just one hit, while walking three and striking out five.

“I was happy to see Franse and Sanderlin able to command most of their pitches for the most part once they settled in,” Skula said. “We will need those guys to be on when their number is called to pitch. We played flawless defense all night as well. To excel in each aspect of the game was very important tonight to win the ball game.”

Post 43 travels back to the Tar Heel state to Concord to play Kannapolis Wednesday night.
