
The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets led the way crowning five individual Region 3-5A champions on Saturday at the region tournament at Fort Mill High School.
Fort Mill won the tournament with 180.5 points with Indian Land finishing second with 112.5 points and Catawba Ridge being third with 105. Nation Ford finished sixth with 87 points.
The Jackets had seven wrestlers reach the finals. Two of them came in second as Brody Harris finished second at 106-pounds, and Jacob Nally, finished second at 120-pounds.
Fort Mill’s first region winner of the tournament was Tucker Gibson (126) with an 18-1 win over Rock Hill’s Danny Flores. Lincoln Greene defeated Indian Land’s Kayden Fogarty 4-2 at 138-pounds.
Fort Mill’s Broden Mitcheson (157) pinned Catawba Ridge’s Archer Rozelle in the second period and Ted Ernst (190) beat Nation Ford’s Derek Bylone van Sandwyk by a score of 8-3. The Jackets’ heavyweight Jonathan DaSilva finished out the tournament with a first period pin over Rock Hill’s Ikris Burgess.
The Jackets had three wrestlers finish third in Keenan Coston (150), Mason Metcalf (175) and Kristian Villatoro (215). Both Jayden Nguyen (144) and Dillon Monahan (165) finished fourth for Fort Mill.
Catawba Ridge is the only other local team to come away with a winner as they had three individuals win region titles. The Copperheads’ Taylon Winker (113) beat Rock Hill’s Alesandro Aguirre 20-2 for a tech fall. Catawba Ridge’s Cole Stukitz (150) got a 5-0 win over Nation Ford’s Jace Smith and Alex Johnson got a 19-3 tech fall over Clover’s Jonas Plummer at 215-pounds.
Finishing second for Catawba Ridge was Angel Acosta (132) and Archer Rozelle (157).
The Copperheads also had a third-place finisher at 106-pounds in Jacob McClure and Wyatt Ellison finished fourth at 126-pounds.
Nation Ford had one more second place finisher besides Smith and Bylone van Sandwyk in Danny Gilstorf, who fell in the finals at 144-pounds.
The Falcons also had Camron Maygar (165) finish third and three finish fourth in Easton Ruth (106), Sulaymon Asaturov (175), and Lorenzo Smith (215).
