Fort Mill’s Madison McCarty returns a shot during a recent match at Fort Mill against Northwestern.

The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team is nearing a Region 3-5A title with one more region match to go.

Fort Mill is now 13-0 on the season and 7-0 in the region. They beat Northwestern in non-region action Monday 4-2 despite not having their full lineup and beat Boiling Springs Tuesday on the road 5-1.

Against Northwestern, the Jackets were missing their top two players in the Pallath sisters and had another player injured before the match and had to pull out. Despite the substitution, Fort Mill was able to make the most of the lineup changes.

Madison McCarty, who usually plays No. 3 singles, played No. 1 singles and fell 6-0, 6-0 and Katie Pierson, who usually plays No. 4 singles, lost at No. 2 6-3, 3-6, 1-0. At No. 3 singles Mia Ter Haar won by forfeit for Fort Mil and Emily Rimmer won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0. Kendall McCarty won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 for the Jackets. In the only doubles match, Clara Lake and Kate Hill won 6-0, 6-0 for Fort Mill.

At Boiling Springs, the Pallath sisters were back to lead Fort Mill as Ana Pallath won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Aashi Pallath won 6-0, 6-0 as well at No. 2 singles. Madison McCarty was back in her normal spot at No. 3 singles and won 6-1, 6-2. Rachel Templeton won at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 for Fort Mill also. In the only doubles match, Lake and Hill won 2-6, 6-2, 10-3 in three sets for the Jackets.

Fort Mill next plays at home against Gaffney Thursday to finish their chase for the region title.

Tennis

Catawba Ridge beat Nation Ford 6-0 Tuesday evening to run its overall record to 12-3 on the season. The Copperheads were led by No. 1 singles player Sarah Taylor who won over Lauren Padgett 6-1, 6-1. Catawba Ridge Claire Hivner won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 over Bell Neff and Aiyana Uter won for the Copperheads at No. 3 singles over Ava Baldino 6-1, 6-1. Sara Maleady won for Catawba Ridge at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Alexa Brenner and Lilly L’esperance won 6-1, 6-0 over Reagan Newman at No. 5 singles for the Copperheads. In the only doubles match, Catawba Ridge’ Malloy McCart and Lucy Drew beat Mary Hart and Harshitha Pallenagari 6-2, 6-1.
