The Fort Mill girl’s tennis team split matches over the past two days to open its season.

Fort Mill beat York 6-0 on Tuesday, Aug. 22, but then fell 5-1 to Cuthbertson Wednesday, Aug. 23. The Jackets are now 1-1 overall on the season.

Against York on a hot afternoon, Fort Mill played just one set matches. The Jackets won all six sets played.

Emily Rimmer won at No. 1 singles and Esme Bromham won at No. 2 singles by scores of 8-3 for Fort Mill. Kate Hill and Reagan Adams won at No. 3 singles and No. 4 singles respectively for the Jackets with 8-0 scores. Kendall McCarty rounded out the singles matches for Fort Mill at No. 5 singles with an 8-1 win. In the only doubles match for the Jackets, Hannah Swainey and Abhi Nallareddy won 8-0.

Against Cuthbertson things were a lot tougher when it came to the competition. Cooler weather allowed for matches to be two sets, however, Fort Mill only picked up one win as Adams won at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-1.

Fort Mill is scheduled to return to play Aug. 29 at Charlotte Latin and will play at home again Sept. 5 against Blythewood in their first Region 3-5A match of the season.

Aug. 23 Roundup

The Nation Ford boys’ volleyball team fell to Northwestern to drop to 0-3 on the season. The Falcons lost 3-1 (25-27,25-19,21-25, 23-25).

The Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team beat South Pointe 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-13) to improve to 3-0 on the season.
