INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Warriors took the season series over the Nation Ford Falcons after a four-set win.
Indian Land won 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17) dropping Nation Ford to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in Region 3-5A.
“We make errors at the wrong time and then they go on runs,” said Nation Ford head coach Amanda Scott. “I am proud of my guys. It’s the first time we took a set off Indian Land. It’s progress.”
Indian Land started the first set strong going up 6-1, before Nation Ford rallied to pull within two at 6-4. The Warriors then went on a little run to go up 9-4 before a Falcons timeout.
Nation Ford pulled within two at 14-12, but struggled to catch up as Indian Land was too strong with their returns which led to kills for the Warriors. The Falcons kept it competitive, but it was Indian Land which took the first set to go up 1-0.
Nation Ford started the second set playing better and marching the Warriors point-for-point.
Indian Land soon got a small two-point lead at 12-10, but the Falcons kept the pressure on them by keeping pace. But that was short lived as the Warriors rattled off four straight points to go up 16-12 leading to a Nation Ford timeout.
That four-point lead stayed consistent for Indian Land as they would take the second set from the Falcons.
The third set again started close for each team. Nation Ford played stronger than in the first two sets and didn’t let the Warriors ever get a decisive lead through the first 20 points.
Indian Land pulled slightly ahead at 14-11, but the Falcons rallied to tie the set and again hang with the Warriors.
Nation Ford took a 21-20 lead leading to an Indian Land timeout. Out of the timeout, the Falcons scored two of three points before winning the third set.
Another close start allowed the Falcons to keep the momentum. Indian Land pulled slightly ahead at 15-12. That allowed the momentum to shift in the Warriors direction as they soon took an 18-13 lead. With the momentum clearly in their corner, Indian Land was able to pull away to take the set and the match.
