Fort Mill’s Alivia Cleveland sprints to the finish line of the Trojan Invitational Saturday at Northwestern.

ROCK HILL – The Fort Mill cross-country team has picked up right where it left off from last year.

Both the Fort Mill boys’ and girls’ teams won the Trojan Invitational at Northwestern on a sloppy and wet course with Alivia Cleveland setting the meet record by winning the girls varsity event in 18:35. Cleveland beat the old record by 10 seconds set in 2004.

In the girls’ varsity race, Fort Mill scored 48 points with four of the five runners finishing in the top 15 and two of them coming in the top 10. Nation Ford finished fourth overall with 132 points and Catawba Ridge was eighth with 234 points.

After Cleveland’s record setting performance, Fort Mill’s Avery Moriarty finished seventh in a time of 20:14 and Kaylee Rovenstine and Izzy Miserendino finishing one second apart in 12th and 13th at 20:42 and 20:43 respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Jackets was Mia Zook in 17th at 20:55.

For Nation Ford, Mia Royall led the way finishing third overall in 19:47. Adria Kahre was next for the Falcons at 21:23 in 25th and then Alaina Mahood in 29th at 21:31. Finishing the scoring for Nation Ford was Taylor Battle in 36th at 21:53 and Jordyn Battle in 44th at 22:10.

For Catawba Ridge it was the Cardozos leading the Copperheads with Alexandra Cardozo in 18th overall at 20:56 and Isabella Cardozo right behind her in 19th overall at 20:58. Hayla Banish was next for Catawba Ridge in 62nd at 22:57 and rounding out the scoring for the Copperheads were Ansley Rosowski in 75th and Emberlyn Rosowski in 76th with identical times of 23:56.

The Fort Mill boys won the varsity race with 53 points, as Nation Ford was right behind them with 55 points. In the boys’ race, Nation Ford’s Mason Haynes won in 16:04 for the Falcons. Haynes was coming off a performance at the Eye Opener for the Falcons setting a school record with a 15:45 last week.  

Isaac Campbell was third overall for Fort Mill and the first Jackets finisher at 16:39. Devon Sibley was seventh overall at 16:55 and Tanner Long was eighth at 16:59. Evan Ickert was 11th overall at 17:04. Connor Demmerle finished the scoring for the Jackets finishing 24th in 17:46.

For Nation Ford after Haynes’ finish, Alan Dayrit was sixth overall for the Falcons at 16:53, followed by a trio of runners for Nation Ford finishing 15th through 17th. Alex McCaskill was 15th at 17:30, Townsend Smith was 16th at 17:31 and Kyle Nitsche was 17th at 17:36.

The Catawba Ridge boys finished fifth overall as a team with 155 points. The Copperheads were led by a 28th place finish from Jordan Kent in 17:53. They also had Jack Myatt finish 29th in 17:53 and Jackson Rozelle in 30th at 17:57. Brady Laurin was 32nd at 18:02 and Spencer Predmore finished 36th at 18:19 for Catawba Ridge.

Nation Ford’s Mason Haynes won the boys race at the Trojan Invitational just a week after setting a new school record for the Falcons.
