American Legion baseball starts this week for the Fort Mill Post 43 program.
Post 43 will be fielding two teams this season – both senior and junior team, as their first game of the season starts Monday, June 5. The Fort Mill senior team will play games at Fort Mill High, while the junior team will play games at Catawba Ridge High School. All home games are schedule for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
The senior team has players on it from all three local high schools as well as Indian Land and Clover High School. Fort Mill is coming off an 8-11-1 record and missed the state tournament last season.
The Fort Mill senior team is also hosting the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge this season at Fort Mill High June 16-18. The challenge will feature Post 43, along with Rock Hill and Florence representing South Carolina, while Queen City (Charlotte), Cherryville and Davidson County will represent North Carolina.
Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Lancaster and Winnsboro are in the same league. The senior playoffs begin July 10 and this year’s senior state tournament will be held at Francis Marion University in Florence July 21-23.
The junior team finished last year at 13-7 overall and made it to the state tournament in Greenwood. They have players from all three local high schools as well as Indian Land High and Charlotte Latin.
The Fort Mill junior team is in the same league as Rock Hill, Lancaster and the Kershaw Eagles.
The junior state tournament is being held at Conway High School July 22-26. Playoffs start July 10th.
