Fort Mill’s Ananya Pallath returns the ball during her first round match against Rock Hill Thursday.

The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team moved onto the second round of the 5A state playoffs with a 5-1 win over the Rock Hill Bearcats to open the postseason.

Fort Mill had no trouble winning all their singles matches by straight sets and dropping the only doubles match, which was the closest of the sets in the match.

The Jackets’ No. 1 singles Ananya Pallath won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 2 singles for Fort Mill Aashi Pallath won 6-1, 6-3. The next three singles matches were easy wins for Fort Mill as they won 6-0, 6-0 with Madison McCarty winning at No. 3 singles, Katie Pierson winning at No. 4 singles and Rachel Templeton winning at No. 5 singles.

In No. 2 doubles, Clara Lake and Kate Hill fell 6-3, 6-4 for the Jackets. Fort Mill is now 15-0 overall on the season and will play the winner of the JL Mann/Spartanburg match which was postponed due to rain Thursday night in Greenville.

In other 5A playoff tennis, Nation Ford fell to No. 1 ranked Blythewood 5-1 in their first-round match ending their season with a 2-9 record. The lone winner for the Falcons was No. 5 singles player Alexa Brenner, who won in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Nation Ford lost No. 1 through No. 4 singles matches in straight sets, as well as, the No. 2 doubles match. Falling for the Falcons was Tanvi Sikka 6-1, 6-1; Lauren Padgett 6-1, 6-0; Bella Neff 7-5, 6-2; Ava Baldino 6-1, 6-2 and Ansley McDonald and Eva Arnautovic 6-2, 6-4 in doubles.
