Catawba Ridge’s Max Conetta (bib 135) leads the field during the boys cross country race Wednesday at the Anne Springs Close Greenway.

Despite it being near the end of cross-country season, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads had their first home meet of the season Wednesday at the Anne Springs Close Greenway running past both Indian Land and South Pointe.

The Catawba Ridge boys, running most of their JV runners, came in first as a team with 30 points, with Indian Land finishing second with 45 and South Pointe with 76.

Leading the way for the Copperheads was Max Conetta winning the boys’ race in a time of 18:57. Nathan McCarthy was second for Catawba Ridge and fifth overall in 19:35, followed by Jordan Kent in seventh in 19:40, Aidan Rogers in eighth in 19:42 and Ethan Conley finishing ninth in 19:59.

The Catawba Ridge girls won easily as well and ran their varsity girls in their meet as they scored 17 points to win. Indian Land again was second with 57 points and South Pointe came in with 62 points.

Maddy Mack led the Copperheads winning the girls’ race in 21:28 with Peyton Pierson finishing second in 21:39, followed by Hayla Banish in third in 21:56. Rounding out the scoring for Catawba Ridge was Shay Studley in fifth overall in 22:23 and Talia Gluff in sixth overall in 22:29.

Catawba Ridge won’t be participating in the York County Championships this but will rest up for their Region 3-4A championship meet back at the greenway Wednesday, Oct. 27.
