In their first home meet of the season, the Catawba Ridge track team split with the South Pointe Stallions, while sweeping the Indian Land Warriors.

The Copperheads girls finished behind South Pointe 109-98 and beat Indian Land who totaled 67 points. The Catawba Ridge boys scored 127.5 points and beat both their Region 3-4A foes in South Pointe who had 96.5 points and Indian Land with 52 points.

Catawba Ridge won 15 events at the meet, most of them being field events as they were led by Tatum Postel and Thomas Maxwell from the boys’ and girls’ team as both of them won two individual events.

Postel won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 7 inches and the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 1 inch in the girl’s competition. Jackson Burger also won the long jump for the Copperheads with a jump of 19 feet, 3 inches.

Maxwell won the discus with a toss of 133 feet, 9 inches and the javelin with a throw of 135 feet, 4 inches. Along with Maxwell in the discus, Olivia Dubrow won the girl’s event with a throw of 110 feet, 6 inches for the Copperheads.

Along with the discus and long jump, Catawba Ridge swept the pole vault event as well. Jolie Nguyen won clearing 9 feet, 6 inches and Austin Franks won clearing 10 feet, 6 inches.

In the other field event that the Copperheads won, Josh Ehresman won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 4 inches.

Catawba Ridge also swept the 1,600-meters in the running events with Hayla Banish winning in 6:01 and Scott Keen winning in 4:47. In another long-distance race, Brady Laurin won the 3,200-meters in 10:52 for the Copperheads.

In the shorter distances, Jonathan Hairston won the 100-meters for Catawba Ridge in 11.21 seconds and Riley Shope won the 400-meter hurdles for the girls in 1:16. The only relay event the Copperheads won was the boys 4×100 with a time of 43.73.
