Fort Mill’s Turner Wiand swims the backstroke during the Region 3-5A meet Saturday.

Both Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge won their respective Region swim meets Saturday at the Fort Mill Aquatics Center.

In the 5A meet, held Saturday afternoon, Fort Mill girls won scoring 427.5 points over Nation Ford’s 204 points. In the boy’s meet, Fort Mill scored 322 points with Nation Ford finishing second at 195.5 points.

Fort Mill won four of the six relay events. Individual winners for Fort Mill were:

Olivia Corbi – girls 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle

Lila Hadley – girls 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke

Ava Corbi – girls 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke

Jack Dollyhigh – boys 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle

Turner Wiand – boys 100-yard backstroke

Nicholas Martin won both the boys 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle for Nation Ford for their only event wins in the meet.

Both Nation Ford and Fort Mill will be heading to the 5A state meet on Saturday, Oct. 14 and Monday, Oct. 16 at the USC Natatorium in Columbia. The girl’s meet is Oct. 14 and the boy’s meet is Oct. 16.

In the 4A meet, which was held Saturday morning, Catawba Ridge girls scored 524 points flying by Northwestern who finished second with 379 points. Indian Land was third with 365 points. In the boy’s events, the Copperheads scored 468 points to easily win over the Trojans 380 points. Indian Land was third with 345 points.

Catawba Ridge won four of the six relay events, with Indian Land winning the other two. Individual winners for the Copperheads were:

AG Marino – girls 200-yard individual medley

Jake Root – boys 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke

Maria Isabella Meehan – girls 100-yard butterfly

Ethan Curtis – boys 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke

Emerson Girard – girls 500-yard freestyle

Up next for Catawba Ridge is the 4A state meet for the girl’s team on Saturday, Oct. 14 and for the boy’s team on Monday, Oct. 16, both at the USC Natatorium in Columbia.
