Fort Mill and Nation Ford golfers tied for the Region 3-5A title on Monday at Chester Golf Club.

CHESTER – After 18 holes and hundreds of shots, all three local golf teams are now Region champions.

Fort Mill, Nation Ford, and Catawba Ridge each came home champions from their respective region tournaments Monday.

In the Region 3-5A golf tournament held at Chester Golf Club, Fort Mill and Nation Ford tied for the region title with each team shooting a 328. For Nation Ford it was a new school record for an 18-hole tournament.

Fort Mill was led by Mackenzie Finn with a two under par 70 (35-35) and Nation Ford was led with an even par 72 (35-37) from Vivian Harris.

Blythewood’s Caroline Hawkins won the region title with a 69 (33-36).

For the Jackets, following Finn’s score was an 81 (43-38) from Cayla Cappuzzo and an 83 (42-41) from Sam Benton. Claire Collins rounded out the scoring with a 94 (44-50) for Fort Mill.

For Nation Ford, Piper Sabino followed Harris with an 80 (36-44) and Sara McCaskill finished with an 87 (44-43). Katie Griggs finished with an 89 (43-46) to wrap up the scoring for the Falcons.

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford will move onto the 5A Upper State tournament next week, along with Blythewood and Spring Valley. The 5A Upper State tournament is back at Chester Golf Club on Monday, Oct. 16.

In the Region 3-4A tournament, also held at Chester Golf Club on Monday, Catawba Ridge won shooting a 333 as a team beating York by 16 strokes. Indian Land was third with a 365.

Lillian Rivers from Northwestern won the individual region title with a round of 78 (41-37).

The Copperheads were led by both Reagan Lynch (38-43) and Brooke Mehlhouse (41-40) who each shot an 81. Anjali Peddisetty shot an 82 (40-42) and Ella Rose Hill rounded out the scoring with an 89 (42-47).

The Copperheads, along with York and Indian Land, will move on to the 4A Upper State tournament at Woodside County Club in Aiken next Monday, Oct. 16.

The Nation Ford girls’ tennis team fell to Blythewood on the road 5-1 to finish their Region 3-5A schedule. Nation Ford finished their region schedule with an 6-4 record and are now 8-6 overall on the year.
