Catawba Ridge’s Katherine Mann tees off on the first hole at Springfield Golf Club during the Copperheads’ first match of the season against Nation Ford.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads girls golf team opened their season with a 191-219 win over the Nation Ford Falcons on their home course at Springfield Golf Club.

Led by Katherine Mann with a 43, the Copperheads posted three scores in the 40s playing with only four players. The match was the first one of the season for Catawba Ridge. Following Mann’s score was a 46 by Kate Gilmer and a 49 from Eileen Zeoli. Alyia Santiago rounded out the scoring for Catawba Ridge with a 53.

The match for Nation Ford was their second one on the season, but first completed one as their first match of the season Aug. 31 against Northwestern was rained out. It is scheduled to be made up Sept. 10.

Nation Ford was led by Vivian Harris, who shot a 48. She was followed by a 56 from Sarah Tran and a 57 from Sara McCaskill. Fharren Coleman finished the scoring for the Falcons with a 58.

Now at 1-0, Catawba Ridge’s next match is currently scheduled for Sept. 15 at Tega Cay Golf Club against Fort Mill and Northwestern. Nation Ford’s currently scheduled to play again Sept. 8 at Cherokee National Golf Club against Gaffney. It will be the first Region 3-5A match of the season.

In other girls’ golf news, Fort Mill beat Clover at Tega Cay Golf Club 203-229 Sept. 3 in their first match of the season. The Jackets were led by a 48 from Greycen Baker. Her score was followed by a 49 from MacKenzie Finn and a 53 from both Kristen Guernsey and Kinsley Delcourt.
