The Catawba Ridge Copperheads topped the Nation Ford Falcons 5-1 in their first meeting of the season on the tennis courts.

Catawba Ridge improved to 2-0 on the season, after beating Rock Hill Monday 4-2 to open the season. The loss for Nation Ford was in their first match of the year.

The Copperheads won all five singles matches with Nation Ford winning the only doubles match of the evening. Three of the five singles matches did go to three set tie breakers, as did the only doubles match.

Catawba Ridge No. 1 singles player Sarah Taylor won 6-2, 6-3 over Tanvi Sikka and No. 2 singles player for the Copperheads was Claire Hivner taking the win 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 over Lauren Padgett.

Aiyana Uter won 1-6, 6-1, 10-6 at No. 3 singles for the Copperheads beating Bella Neff and Sara Maleady won in straight sets at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1 for Catawba Ridge over Ava Baldino. Lilly L’Esperance won at No. 5 singles for Catawba Ridge 6-1, 1-6 and 10-6 over Alexa Brenner.

The one win for Nation Ford was at No. 2 doubles as Ansley McDonald and Eva Arnautovic won 6-7 (3), 6-3 and 10-3 beating Mallory McCart and Katherine Koehl.

Winning for Catawba Ridge against Rock Hill Monday was Hivner, Maleady, L’Esperance and McCart and Koehl in doubles.

Up next on the schedule for Catawba Ridge is Northwestern Aug. 30. For the Falcons, their next scheduled match is Aug. 31 against Charlotte Catholic.

Volleyball

The Fort Mill volleyball team defeated Rock Hill in four sets winning 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19). The Jackets are now 6-1 on the season overall after finishing seconds in the Byrnes Invitational earlier this month going 5-1 at the tournament.
