The Catawba Ridge swim team finally opened their 2020 swim season by having their girls team sweep and their boys team split a meet against Indian Land and Lancaster.
Catawba Ridge boys beat Lancaster 103-47, but lost to Indian Land 97-70; while the girls’ team beat Lancaster 85-81 and Indian Land 99-71. Overall, Catawba Ridge beat Lancaster by a combined score of 188-128 and Indian Land 169-168. The Copperheads girls’ team is 2-0, while the boys’ team is 1-1 on the season.
All three teams each won two relay events in a very close meet. Catawba Ridge won the boys’ and girls’ 400-yard free relay events at the end of the meet. Individual winners for the Copperheads were:
Alexander Ritz – boys’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke
Rielly Lavery – girls’ 200-yard freestyle
Isabella Prouse – girls’ 50-yard freestyle
In a separate meet, Fort Mill easily beat Northwestern to stay undefeated. The girls’ team won 138-29 and the boys’ team won 120-49. Fort Mill won all six relays and are now 4-0 on the season. Individual winners for the Jackets were:
Owen Fey – boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke
Anna Kate Halligan – girls’ 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle
Olivia Corbi – girls’ 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle
Ava Corbi – girls’ 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke
Kyndall Brown – girls’ 200-yard freestyle
Cesar Gavilan – boys’ 50-yard freestyle
Max Reichert – boys’ 100-yard butterfly
Drew Fey – boys’ 100-yard freestyle
Carson Wolf – boys’ 500-yard freestyle
Mia Pogorzelski – girls’ 100-yard breaststroke
Mason Martin – boys’ 100-yard breaststroke
Tennis
The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team beat Rock Hill 5-1 to improve to 5-1 overall on the season. Winning for the Jackets was Madison McCarty at No. 1 singles 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8); Katie Pierson at No 2 singles 6-4, 6-3; Rachel Templeton at No. 4 singles 7-6, 6-2 and Bristol Kershaw at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1. Clara Lake and Kate Hill also won in No. 2 doubles 6-2, 7-5.
