
The Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis team improved to 3-0 in Region 3-4A with a shutout win over the Lancaster Bruins Tuesday.
Catawba Ridge won 6-0 with only one match going to a third set tiebreaker. The win puts the Copperheads at 4-2 overall on the season.
Lancaster played Catawba Ridge close in some sets, but couldn’t close them out. In No. 1 singles, Lilly Lesperance won 6-0, 6-2 for the Copperheads.
At No. 2 singles for Catawba Ridge, Katherine Koehl was pushed to a third set tiebreaker dropping the first set 7-5, but rallying to win 6-0 and 10-6 in the other two sets.
Singles players three through five were all two set sweeps for the Copperheads. Mallory McCart won 7-5, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, while Ava King won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles and Sydney Biggers won 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles for Catawba Ridge.
The only doubles match consisted of Gracyn Root and Emerson Brooks winning 6-0, 6-2 for the Copperheads.
Catawba Ridge will try to stay undefeated in the region with a match up against Indian Land Thursday, Sept. 8.
At Clover, the Nation Ford Falcons beat Clover 4-3 on the road in their first Region 3-5A match of the season. The Falcons had wins at No. 1, No. 5 singles and the two doubles matches to take the win.
At No. 1 singles Tori Baldino won 6-3, 6-0 and at No. 5 singles Eva Arnautovic won in three sets 2-6, 6-1, 10-2 for the Falcons.
Nation Ford also had key wins in the two doubles matches with Alexa Brenner and Ansley McDonald winning 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles and Lauren Padgett teaming with Baldino to win in No. 1 doubles 6-3, 7-5.
Up next for the Falcons, they host Blythewood on Thursday, Sept. 8.
