The Nation Ford boys’ volleyball team picked up their second consecutive win and are looking to keep moving forward.
The Falcons beat the Lake Wylie Chargers 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15) to improve to 4-6 overall on the season and 2-0 in Region 3-4A.
“The matches we have lost have been in five sets,” said Nation Ford head coach Amanda Scott. “They have been battles. We lost to teams like Riverside, who is No. 1 in the country, and Byrnes, who is 5A. I think we are moving in the right direction. We are trying to be more than one dimensional this year.”
Nation Ford started strong and went up 9-3 to start the first set before a Lake Wylie timeout.
The Falcons kept the pressure on the Chargers as they started pulling away in the set. Nation Ford went up 14-6 before another Lake Wylie timeout in the set.
Nation Ford’s strength in the set was their serving as they collected several aces keeping Lake Wylie off guard.
The Chargers started the second set scoring the first point and stayed with the Falcons early on.
Nation Ford went on a little run to go up 9-3 with the help of several aces by Matthew Scott. The Falcons led 9-3 in the second set when Lake Wylie called a timeout.
The Falcons’ intensity dropped some in the second set, but it wasn’t enough for the Chargers to put together a run as Nation Ford kept a comfortable lead. While their serving helped a lot in the first set, the Falcons struggled at times with clean serves in the second set. Despite the struggles, Nation Ford never lost command of the set as they went up 22-15 forcing Lake Wylie into a timeout before they closed the set out going up 2-0.
Again, in the third set, the Chargers scored first, but Nation Ford rattled off five consecutive points to again grab command of the set. That didn’t last long as Lake Wylie came to tie the set at five. However, the Falcons scored four consecutive points to again take the lead.
Lake Wylie played better in the third set and stayed close to Nation Ford. Although more of a challenge in the third set, the Falcons were too strong at the net with its returns to collect kills.
Up next for Nation Ford is another region match against local rival Catawba Ridge on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The Catawba Ridge girls’ tennis team beat York 6-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season. Winning for Catawba Ridge was Abby Russell 6-0, 6-0; Elaina Beilstein 6-2, 6-0; Brooklynn Schuylar 6-0, 6-1; Gracyn Root 6-0, 6-0; Gigi Miller 6-0, 6-3 and in doubles Lucy Baines and Adaline Goddard 6-1, 6-1.
The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team beat Rock Hill 5-1 to improve to 5-0 on the season and open Region 2-5A play. Winning for Fort Mill was Abhi NallaReddy 7-6, 6-2; Molly Goodson 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-7; Avalon Stevens 6-2, 6-1; Siona Soman 6-1, 6-3 and in doubles Ellie Corbett and Evie Dyer 6-3, 6-1.
The Nation Ford girls’ volleyball team won 3-0 to improve to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in Region 3-4A.
The Catawba Ridge boys’ volleyball team beat Fort Mill 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-18, 25-23) to improve to 7-3 overall on the season. Fort Mill fell to 3-6 overall on the season.
