The Fort Mill girls’ tennis team opened their season beating a former Region foe.
Fort Mill beat the Catawba Ridge Copperheads in both teams’ season opener winning 5-1. The Lady Jackets were led by Abhi Nallareddy with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at No. 1 singles with a win over Elaina Beilstein.
Catawba Ridge got their only win in three sets as Brooklynn Schuyler topped Molly Goodson 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6 at No. 2 singles.
Kendall McCarty won at No. 3 singles for Fort Mill beating the Copperheads’ Gracyn Root by identical scores of 7-5, 7-5.
Fort Mill’s Avalon Stevens beat Catawba Ridge’s Gigi Miller 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and the Jackets’ Siona Soman won 6-3, 6-0 over the Copperheads’ Kaitlyn Wood.
In the only doubles match, Fort Mill’s Ellie Corbett and Smriti Kirubakaran teamed up to beat Jane Rohrmeier and Lucy Baines in three sets 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 10-6.
Catawba Ridge will play again next Monday, Aug. 24 hosting Charlotte Catholic, while Fort Mill will play next at Nation Ford on Thursday, Aug. 20.
