A hot start was all that Fort Mill Post 43 Seniors needed to open their series against Lancaster Post 31.
Fort Mill won 11-1 in five innings after having their best offensive productive game of the season thus far. Post 43 got nine hits in scoring the 11 runs and was errorless in the game.
The hot start saw Fort Mill score nine runs on six hits in the bottom of the first. Post 43 also took advantage of a couple of Lancaster errors in the inning as well.
Fort Mill started strong with TJ McCluney getting hit and Jack Shelnut singled to start things. Alex Blanchette reached on an error and JT Leonhardt scored scoring McCluney. James Knoll then hit a bases clearing double to score three runs.
Michael Caropreso drove in two with a single and both Shellnut and Blanchette drove in runs on hits as well to put up a 9-0 lead after the first.
In the bottom of the third, Caropreso doubled, but Fort Mill failed to score leaving him stranded at third.
Post 43 starter Bryce Meil cruised through the first three innings. Lancaster got their first hit in the fourth inning. That single was followed by a double to score a run for Post 31. Meil would go all five innings allowing one run on two hits without allowing a walk and striking out eight.
Fort Mill’s bats would come alive in the fifth again to score two runs and force the 10-run mercy rule. Grey Kniedel doubled and Ethan Solnick walked. Shelnut then doubled to score two runs making it 11-1.
Offensively, Shelnut went 2-4 with three RBI. Knoll also had three RBI in going 1-3. Blanchette and Caropreso each had two RBI as well.
Post 43 Seniors improved to 2-3 on the season and will go to Lancaster Post 31 on Tuesday, June 16.
