
Both Nation Ford and Fort Mill High softball teams fell in the 5A Division II state playoffs putting them in an elimination game on Friday.
Nation Ford fell in the eighth inning as TL Hanna Yellow Jackets walked the game off with a single in the bottom of the eighth to win 3-2.
Neither team scored through the first three innings, but the Yellow Jackets scored in the bottom of the fourth to go up 1-0.
Nation Ford took the lead in the top of the sixth inning to go up 2-1. Maci Ladamus reached base on an error with two outs in the sixth before Tori Baldino singled scoring Ladamus. Starting pitcher Paizlei Ross singled to score courtesy runner Natalie Holifield to give the Falcons the lead.
TL Hanna tied the game in the bottom of the seventh off three singles, before winning it in the eight off another single set up by a Nation Ford error that allowed a base runner to get on second.
Nation Ford was led at the plate by Jackie Knol who went 2-3. Both Ross and Baldino went 1-3 with RBIs. Ross got the loss in the complete game as she allowed three runs on nine hits, while walking five and striking out 10.
The loss drops the Falcons to 17-9 on the season as they will now be in an elimination game at home on Friday, May 8 against Greenville.
Jackets fall to Woodmont
Fort Mill dropped their first game in the double elimination District II playoffs falling on the road to Woodmont 5-1.
Woodmont started strong scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning off an error and a single.
Fort Mill scored its only run in the top of the third inning and matched Woodmont hit-for-hit in the game. In the top of the third, Brooke Rosario doubled to get things started and Ella Beebe singled to score Rosario. Rosario led Fort Mill at the plate going 2-3, while Beebe went 1-2 with the only RBI.
The two teams were pretty even for the next couple of innings before Woodmont scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off three hits and another Fort Mill error. The Jackets made three errors in the game.
Elaina Hildebrand pitched six innings and gave up five runs on five hits, but only allowed three earned runs. She walked three and struck out four.
The loss dropped the Jackets to 14-13 on the season as they will now travel to Riverside on Friday, May 8 in an elimination game.
