Both the Fort Mill girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams easily claimed the Region 3-5A title at the Anne Springs Close Greenway Tuesday.

There was no sign of letting up a dominate regular season for Fort Mill coming off a York County Championship Saturday as both teams had no trouble in winning the region meet. In the girls’ race, Fort Mill scored 17 points and had five of the top six finishers in the race. Clover was second with 62 points followed by Nation Ford with 65 and then Boiling Springs with 107.

For the Jackets, Avery Moriarty won the race with a time of 19:58 and was followed by Angel Kravitz in 20:16 in second place. Kelsey McGuire was third overall in 20:30 and then Brinley Ellis was fifth overall in 21:16. Mia Zook rounded out the scoring in 21:19 for the Jackets in sixth place.

The Nation Ford girls were led by Adria Kahre who was eighth in 21:48 and then Megan O’Flynn in 12th in 22:07. The Falcons then had a group of runners come in led by Alaina Mahmood in 22:23 in 14th, followed by Jennifer Zermeno in 22:24 in 15th and AnnMarie Macheski in 22:25 in 16th.

The boys’ race was a little closer for Fort Mill, but not by much as the Jackets scored 20 points to win the meet. Nation Ford was second with 53 points followed by Boiling Springs with 86 points and Clover with 90 points.

Devon Sibley won the race for Fort Mill in 16:15, with Nation Ford’s Mason Haynes coming in second at 16:39. The Jackets then placed runners third through fifth with Evan Wey coming in third in 16:46, followed by Evan Ickert in 16:48 in fourth and Jackson Dawson in fifth in 16:52. Tanner Long was the last runner to score for Fort Mill finishing seventh in 17:05.

Besides the second-place finish for Haynes, the next closest Nation Ford runner was Alexander Bentley, who finished 10th in 17:21, and then Townsend Smith right behind him in 11th in 17:28. Justin Storms finished 13th in 17:43 and Chase Johnson was 14th in 17:48, both for the Falcons.

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford will be in the state qualifier next week at Newberry trying to punch their ticket to the state meet Nov. 12 in Columbia.
