
After beating them twice in the regular season, the Catawba Ridge tennis team knew their first-round playoff opponent pretty well.
The Copperheads opened the 5A Division II playoffs at home against Region 3-5A foe Indian Land Warriors, a team they had beaten twice in the regular season by scores of 4-2. However, it was Indian Land that moved onto the second round with a 4-3 win over Catawba Ridge.
Indian Land took the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, but the Copperheads bounced back with a 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles with Arav Bhingare getting the win. Wayden Uter won at No. 3 singles for Catawba Ridge 6-4, 6-3 and Aahan Singh won at No. 4 singles for the Copperheads 6-1, 6-0 for their only three wins in the match. The Warriors took No. 5 singles and both doubles matches to move on in the playoffs.
Catawba Ridge finished the season at 8-8 overall.
Across town, it was another story as the Nation Ford Falcons opened the playoffs with a 6-0 win over Woodmont.
The Falcons improved to 11-3 overall on the season and will travel to Greenville on Thursday, April 30.
In No. 1 singles for the Falcons, Colt Mohler won due to an injury to his opponent. No. 2 singles saw Davis Glasco win 6-0, 6-1 for the Falcons and at No. 3 singles Shanmith Kamireddy won 6-3, 6-1 for Nation Ford.
Nation Ford’s No. 4 singles Jaideep Tatineni won 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 5 singles Finnegan Bridges won 6-3, 6-2.
In the only doubles match, Josh Assaad and Ohm Patel won 6-2, 7-5 for the Falcons.
Fort Mill tennis has a first-round bye for winning Region 3-5A and will play at home on April 30 against TL Hanna.

The Nation Ford girls’ lacrosse team fell at home 9-6 in the opening round of the 5A Division II playoffs to TL Hanna. The Falcons end their season at 11-6 overall.
The Nation Ford boys’ soccer team fell to Clover 1-0 dropping them to 4-7 in Region 3-5A and 7-12 overall.
The Nation Ford girls’ soccer team fell on the road to Clover 3-1 dropping them to 12-4 overall and 8-3 in Region 3-5A.
The Fort Mill boys’ soccer team beat Indian Land on the road 4-1 to improve to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in Region 3-5A.
The Fort Mill girls’ soccer team beat Indian Land 4-0 improving them to 12-4 on the season and 9-2 in Region 3-5A.
The Catawba Ridge girls’ soccer team shutout Rock Hill 4-0 improving to 17-3-1 overall and 8-3 in Region 3-4A.
The Catawba Ridge boys’ soccer team beat Rock Hill 4-2 to improve to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in Region 3-5A.
The Nation Ford softball team lost to Clover 7-1 dropping them to 15-8 overall and 6-5 in Region 3-5A. The Falcons were led by Paizlei Ross, who went 2-4 to get half of the Nation Ford hits. She also had the only RBI in the game for Nation Ford.
The Fort Mill softball team ended a five-game win streak falling 13-3 to Indian Land. The loss dropped Fort Mill to 13-11 overall and 6-5 in Region 3-5A play. Brooke Rosario led Fort Mill at the plate going 2-2 with two RBIs.
The Catawba Ridge softball team easily beat Rock Hill 15-1 to improve to 16-8 overall and 9-2 in Region 3-5A. The Copperheads were led by Mia Kovacs and Jaidyn Harris, both of which had three RBIs and two hits.
