Two first half goals were enough for the Indian Land Warriors boys’ soccer team to top the Nation Ford Falcons.
Indian Land won 2-0 dropping the Falcons to 6-10 on the season and 3-5 in Region 3-5A. The Falcons had its chances, but could never seem to capitalize.
“It is a repetition of the entire season for this group,” said Nation Ford head coach Kenny Halas. “We don’t score goals; we aren’t going to win games. It is that simple. We don’t get it on frame. We are competitive. We feel like we are the better squad, but the scoreboard doesn’t show it. We have to keep battling.
Nation Ford controlled possession early through the first five minutes, however, it was Indian Land that struck first on their only real true possession of those first five minutes. The Falcons’ keeper came out to try to make a stop before the Warriors slipped one at the sixth minute mark.
Despite the early goal, the Falcons still maintained possession the majority of the time through the first 15 minutes. However, they struggled in finding any open seams in the box to score.
The game transitioned into a more 50-50 battle between the two region foes. Nation Ford got a free kick in the 22nd minute and came close to scoring missing the goal by about a foot.
Indian Land doubled up their score in the 25th minute with a ball off the left side to make it 2-0 putting the Falcons on their heels at that point. As the first half continued Nation Ford found themselves with several more opportunities to score, but could never find the back of the net.
The Falcons started the second half controlling the ball more, but despite two early corner kicks wasn’t able to score. Indian Land started controlling possession more over the next 10 minutes.
Nation Ford seemed to press more to score a goal as the second half wore on after the first 20 minutes of play.
Frustration built for the Falcons as a collision near midfield between two players on both teams led to a lot of pushing and shoving about midway through the second half.
Defensively, Nation Ford played better in the second half, but the Warriors had similar defensive strengths in keeping the Falcons out of the box on offense.
Nation Ford thought they scored with about seven minutes left in the match off a free kick, but the whole ball didn’t cross the line before the save by the Warriors keeper so the goal didn’t count. The Falcons failed to get any more opportunities in the match as they would go down on their senior night.
