The Fort Mill girls’ golf team played their way to another victory against the Indian Land Warriors.

Fort Mill beat Indian Land by one stroke 176-177 on the Jackets home course at Tega Cay Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 25. The win put Fort Mill at 2-0 on the young season.

The Jackets were led by Claire Collins with a 37. She was followed by scores from Lauren Venino, Campbell Grant, and Kyler Sartwell. Venino shot a 43 and Grant shot a 47. Sartwell finished with a 49 to round out the scoring for Fort Mill.

Fort Mill is next scheduled to play on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Palmetto Preview.

Weekend Roundup

Golf

Both the Catawba Ridge and Nation Ford girls’ golf teams participated in the Lady Blue Jacket Invitational tournament in Loris. Catawba Ridge came in third out of 13 schools and was led by Brooke Mehlhouse with a 158 over two days as she finished third overall. She was followed by EllaRose Hill who shot a 173 and Anjali Peddisetty, who shot a 179.

The Nation Ford team came away with a 10th place finish and shot 416 over the two days.

Volleyball

Fort Mill, Catawba Ridge, and Nation Ford were also at the same boys’ volleyball tournament at Byrnes High School. Fort Mill went 2-3 overall in the tournament to start their season. The Jackets beat Byrnes 2-1 and Blythewood 2-1, while falling to Socastee 2-0, Indian Land 2-0, and Nation Ford 2-0.

Nation Ford went 3-2 overall and got wins over Fort Mill 2-0, Mauldin 2-1, and Wilson 2-0. They lost to Catawba Ridge 2-0 and May River 2-1. The Falcons’ Jack Sander was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Copperheads went 3-1 at the tournament beating Mauldin 2-1, Wilson 2-0, Nation Ford 2-0, and falling to Greenville 2-0.

Cross Country

Both the Fort Mill boys and girls’ varsity cross-country teams won in their season opener at the Western North Carolina XC Carnival.
