New York Yankees legend Yogi Berra knew what he was talking about when he said it was like Deja vu all over again.
For the second consecutive home game, the Fort Mill Post 43 Senior team was rained out, this time without even throwing a pitch. Post 43 was scheduled to finish a game from Monday, June 9 and then start a 7-inning game after that. However, after finishing the first game, the teams were in the middle of the national anthem when the lightning detection system went off. About 30 minutes into the delay for lightning, rains came and flooded the field at Fort Mill High canceling the game.
Post 43 opened game one of the series trailing 4-3 and resumed where things left off Monday, June 9 when the game was halted because of rain.
In the bottom of the third inning, with Michael Rogers on first the game resumed. Cooper Mitchell singled in Rogers two batters into play to tie the game at four.
Camden would push the lead to 7-4 with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth inning.
Fort Mill rallied to make it 7-6 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t rally enough. In the inning, Cole Gutmann walked and James Knoll singled. A couple of errors by Camden allowed the two runs to score for Post 43 in the inning. However, that was all Fort Mill could get as their six-game winning streak against Camden was stopped.
On Monday to start the game, a one out single and walk for Camden got things started for Post 17. A second walk in the inning loading the bases.
Camden took an early 1-0 off a passed ball and then a double scored two more for Post 17 to put them up 3-0 before Fort Mill could get out of the inning.
Post 43 wasn’t able to get anything going in the bottom of the inning as they went down in order.
In the second inning, a two-out error by Fort Mill led to another Camden run, but Post 43 was able to get out of the inning without too much damage being done.
Post 43 threatened in the bottom of the second by getting the bases loaded off two walks and Rogers getting hit by a pitch. However, Fort Mill wasn’t able to get a timely hit to score a run.
In the third inning, Josh Patterson got hit to start the inning and Alex Blanchette reached on an error. That set up a three-run home run by Jacob Pettit, to pull Fort Mill within one. Rogers singled and before Post 43 could do anything the lightning detection system went off which delayed the game until Thursday.
Over the two days, Petitt went 1-4 with four RBIs to lead Post 43. Rogers went 2-3 and Knoll went 1-3 in the game.
Fort Mill is now 2-3 on the season and has a three-game series scheduled next week against Lancaster Post 31.
