
ROCK HILL – The Nation Ford Falcons golf team came in second place as all three local teams got top 10 finishes in the Fleischer Invitational at Rock Hill Country Club this weekend.
Nation Ford shot a two-day total of 618 (311-307), as Gaffney finished with a 611 (314-297) to win the event. Catawba Ridge finished fourth with a 642 (324-328) and Fort Mill finished seventh with a 660 (341-319).
The Falcons were led by Carter Smith who finished with a two-day total of 144 (71-73) tying for the lead with Indian Land’s Julius Lorimer. Smith would win in a playoff to take the individual title.
Behind Smith for Nation Ford was Oliver LaPointe with a 154 (78-76) and Connor Mills with a 159 (77-82). James Wachtel finished the scoring for Nation Ford with a 161 (85-76).
Catawba Ridge was led by a 151 (76-75) from Muller Otto who finished fourth overall. Bray Vining was behind him with a 160 (76-84) and Carter Mitten with a 165 (80-85). The Copperheads’ Niam Smith finished the scoring for them with a 166 (82-84).
Fort Mill was led by Baker Tolentino with a 155 (80-75) for a 13th place finish. Noah Jones was behind him with a 162 (86-76) for the Jackets and then a 167 (83-84) by Tyson Shouse. Andrew Blocher finished the scoring for Fort Mill with a 176 (92-84).
The tournament had 12 teams in it with nine of the teams being from York County.
