Boys high school wrestling

Three local wrestlers placed in the Southern Slam at Eastside High Saturday, while the Catawba Ridge Copperheads finished second in a dual tournament in North Carolina.

Fort Mill’s Jacob Nally and Noah Kitchton each finished sixth in their weight class respectively at the Southern Slam. Nation Ford’s Caden Brandenburg finished sixth as well in the tournament.

Nally fell in the fifth-place match to Luke Johannes of High Point Academy at 106-pounds for the Jackets. Kitchton also lost in the fifth-place match at 145-pounds to finish sixth falling to David Panone of Lassiter (Ga.). For Nation Ford, Brandenburg lost to Talen Thompson of Buford (Ga.) to finish sixth at 160-pounds.

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford had 10 wrestlers in the tournament in different weight classes. As a team, Fort Mill finished 20th with 58 points and Nation Ford finished 28th with 45 points. There were 35 teams in the tournament. Woodward Academy won the event with 189 points.

Nation Ford next wrestles Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Buford and in a tri-match with Lancaster. Fort Mill opens their dual season on the road Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Lancaster as part of a quad-match.

Catawba Ridge wrestled in the Metrolina Warriors Dual in Indian Trail, N.C. Saturday. They finished second in the tournament picking up wins over Charlotte Christian 44-24, Charlotte Country Day 48-21, Chesterfield 66-12 and North Raleigh Christian Academy 66-18. The team went 4-1 on the day. Their only loss came to host Metrolina Christian Academy 49-24.

The Copperheads are now 6-1 overall on the season. Catawba Ridge next wrestles at Cardinal Newman Wednesday, Dec. 8 in a tri-match.
