
BLUFFTON – The Fort Mill High School varsity wrestling team brought home three champions from the US Army Shark Invitational at May River High School on New Year’s Eve.
Jacob Nally (120), Lincoln Greene (138) and Jonathan DaSilva (hwt.) came away from the two-day tournament as Fort Mill finished second overall in the team standings with 236.5 points as South Effingham (Ga.) won with 280.5 points.
Fort Mill sent six wrestlers to the finals and one wrestler to the consolation finals. Nally went 4-0 in the tournament and beat three of his opponents by pinfall and got a 9-3 decision in the finals over South Effingham’s Mayson Young.
Greene went 5-0 in the tournament and won his finals match with a 7-0 decision over Philip Simmons’ Matthew Spignardo. He also got two pins, a tech fall, and a major decision in the tournament.
DaSilva went 4-0 and won 3-2 in the finals at heavyweight over South Effingham’s Kevin Steptoe, to go along with two pins and a major decision in the tournament.
Lucas Van Beynum (113), Keenan Coston (150), and Ted Ernst (175) each finished second in their weight classes.
Fort Mill’s Jayden Nguyen (144) finished third with a 5-4 decision over Beaufort’s Antonio McKnight in the consolation finals.
The Jackets’ Broden Mitcheson (157) finished fifth with a 5-2 decision over Bluffton’s Gabe Fulton. Lincoln Marks finished sixth for Fort Mill at 126-pounds.
Fort Mill returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Union County Duals at Union County High School.
