Fort Mill Post 43 Juniors pitcher Fox Thorpe tossed a complete game no-hitter to blank Rock Hill Post 34 guiding them to an 8-0 win.
Thorpe went seven innings allowing four walks, while striking out eight on 108 pitches as Post 43 improved to 5-2 overall on the season.
Fort Mill scored seven runs in the first three innings aided by five Rock Hill errors. In the first inning, Post 43 started things off with an Eli Wilson walk. Blake Chatman and Matt Scott were then hit by pitches, before a fielder’s choice by Carter Czapla scored Wilson. An error by Rock Hill then allowed Chatman to score putting Post 43 up 2-0.
In the second inning, Fort Mill added four runs starting with a walk to Jackson Carroll. Eli Cheske reached on a fielder’s choice and Wilson drove him in two batters later with a single. Chatman singled in Wilson and a double by Scott scored Chatman. Czapla scored Scott on a single as four consecutive hits, put Post 43 up 6-0.
In the third inning, Devon Pascarella started the bottom half off with a single for Fort Mill and an error pushed him to third, before he scored on a Carroll ground out.
Fort Mill finished out the scoring in the fifth inning as Cheske would score on an error after reaching base with a walk.
For Thorpe, despite the four walks, did get in trouble a couple of innings. He had runners in scoring position a couple of times in the game in the first, sixth and seventh innings, but managed to work his way out of the jams. He also hit three Rock Hill batters, including two in the seventh inning.
Post 43 defense helped Thorpe out during the outing turning a couple of double plays in the game.
Fort Mill will now turn their attention to finishing a game against York Post 66 at home on June 25 and then play a seven-inning game against Post 66 also tomorrow. They are scheduled to finish out the week on the road at Rock Hill on Thursday, June 26.
