High School Baseball in Fort Mill

Spring break tournaments are underway for two of the three local baseball teams.

Nation Ford opened their tournament over at York Comprehensive High Monday by beating South Pointe 15-4.

The Falcons didn’t waste anytime as they scattered 10 hits in the game and opened the game scoring eight runs in the top of the first inning. Gabe Simmons went 3-4 with five RBIs in the win from the leadoff position for Nation Ford.

South Pointe walked five batters in the first inning and the Falcons got four hits all with two outs to collect the eight runs.

South Pointe scored two runs in the bottom of the first to close the gap some, but couldn’t hold off Nation Ford as they added three more runs in the top of the second inning off another hit, a couple walks and an error.

Nation Ford added a run in the third and then again opened the flood gates with six runs in the fifth inning.

Lane Ross went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game and Jake Barrier went 1-3 with three RBIs as well. Ross got the start on the mound and went two innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out three.

Nation Ford will play Indian Land Tuesday back at York Comprehensive. The win against South Pointe puts Nation Ford at 10-6 overall on the season.

Fort Mill baseball in Lexington area

The Fort Mill baseball team dropped their second consecutive game Monday falling to Spartanburg 4-0 in the Sandlapper tournament at Gilbert High School.

It was the second straight game the Jackets were shutout losing to Lexington 10-0 Saturday, April 1.

Against Spartanburg, Fort Mill managed just two hits as Carter Blankinship and Eli Craddock each went 1-3 in the game.

Jaeger Pankowski took the loss on the mound going five innings and allowing four runs on nine hits, while striking out four. Spartanburg scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added two more in the fifth inning to get the win.

Fort Mill will play Lancaster Tuesday back at Gilbert to finish out their spring break games. They are now 10-7 on the season.

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford will square-off in a three-game series after the break starting April 10.

Catawba Ridge plays West Virginia team

The Catawba Ridge baseball team took on Hurricane High School out of West Virginia at Winthrop University.

The Copperheads beat Hurricane winning 6-2. Catawba Ridge was led by Jackson Mullen on the mound as he went five innings of no-hit baseball walking five and striking out four.

Owen Noonan, Ben Wilson and Jonathan Barschow each went 1-3 with an RBI. Catawba Ridge used a five run sixth inning to rally past Hurricane as they improve to 13-3 overall on the season.

The Copperheads travel to Charlotte Tuesday to play the Carolina Royals at Tuckaseegee Park.
