Alex Steckler safely steals second base during Post 43’s game at Lexington Thursday.

LEXINGTON – The 2022 American Legion season ended for the Fort Mill Post 43 Senior team with a 5-2 loss to Lexington Post 7 in game three of the second-round best of three playoff series.

Post 43 had one bad inning in the fifth where they allowed four runs on five hits which allowed Lexington Post 7 to take the lead and never look back.

Fort Mill struggled at the plate managing just four hits, but got an early 2-0 lead through the first four innings. Scott Young, Alex Steckler, Luke Garabedian and Tyler Levy all went 1-3 in the game to collect the four Fort Mill hits. Garabedian and Trevor Testerman drove in a run for Post 43.

In the top of the third inning, Post 43 got on the board as both Lane Boutwell and Drew Endres would walk and Testerman would eventually knock in Boutwell to give Fort Mill a 1-0 lead.

Then in the fourth inning, Steckler would lead the inning off with a single and Garabedian would single to score Steckler, but then things would go south for Post 43 in the proceeding innings.

Starter Eric Yelton would go four and a third innings of perfect baseball allowing no hits and no one to reach base, but Lexington on their second time through the line up was able to catch up to Yelton.

Lexington rattled off four runs on five hits leading to Yelton being pulled from the game. Kyle Knoll would get Post 43 out of the inning and Lexington would tack on another run in the sixth inning off a wild pitch.

Post 43 finished the season at 8-11-1 overall.
