Post 43’s Miles Baker throws a pitch during his game on the mound against Chester Post 27. Baker would go five innings for the win.

CHESTER – Two pitchers on the Fort Mill Post 43 junior team combined for a three hitter to power them to a 6-0 win over Chester Post 27.

Miles Baker went five innings and allowed just three hits in the win and Avery Childs pitched two innings of relief to close things out.

“Miles did a phenomenal job on the mound,” said Post 43 juniors head coach Michael Lewis. “It has been a while since he was on the mound. It was good to see him get back out there.”

Along with pitching, Post 43 also made things happen at the plate as they collected 10 hits with four players getting two hits each.

Post 43 scored two runs in the first inning and was able to give Baker the support he needed from the opening of the game. Chester Post 27 made four errors in the game, one of which came in the first inning. Killion Bennett, who went 2-3, drove in his first of two RBI in the first inning as Fort Mill went up 2-0 after the inning. Aiden Cattarin was another at the plate that went 2-3 in the game getting hits in the second and fourth innings.

In the third inning, Fort Mill added another run with the help of a passed ball as they collected two more hits in the inning. Post 43 put the game out of reach in the fifth inning with a three-run frame with the help of an RBI single from Chico Moreno, who went 2-3 with two RBI, and another RBI single from Bennett. Another Post 27 error gave Fort Mill a third run in the inning.

While the six runs were enough, Baker would strikeout eight in five innings of work and walk three.  Childs, who went 2-4 at the plate as well, came in and threw 26 pitches in two innings of work striking out two of the six batters he faced.

The win put the Post 43 juniors at 6-0 on the season. They are scheduled to open a three-game series starting 7:30 p.m. next Monday at home at Nation Ford High against Lancaster Post 31.

Fort Mill Post 43 senior team also closed out their series with Chester to improve to 5-0 on the season as Post 27 had to forfeit their game Thursday evening due to a lack of player availability giving the seniors a win. Post 43 seniors are also scheduled to open a three-game series next Monday starting at Lancaster.
