The Northwestern Trojans found their groove in the second half after a slow to their standard start to pull away from the Nation Ford Falcons for a 61-22 win.

The loss by Nation Ford drops them to 0-4 overall on the season. Northwestern improves to 4-0 overall.

The Trojans led 33-22 at the half, but then outscored Nation Ford 28-0 in the second half. Nation Ford was able to keep pace with the Trojans as they had an early lead with about 9:30 to go in the second quarter.

Nation Ford started the scoring in the game as Carson Black found Josh Ameo for a 15-yard touchdown with 7:13 in the opening quarter. Northwestern came back to score, but missed the extra point. The Trojans then took a 13-7 lead with less than a minute left in the opening quarter.

However, with Nation Ford driving in the second quarter, Black hit Jeremiah Hailstock for a 10-yard touchdown to allow the Falcons to regain the lead with 9:30 left before the half. That would be the last lead Nation Ford would have as the Trojans’ strength started to show through.

The Trojans would score with about 5:45 left in the first half and then add another touchdown with about 4:30 left on a 60-yard run by Turbo Richard. Northwestern didn’t stop the scoring then as they would add another score with about 1:25 left in the half.

Nation Ford kept the fight alive as they scored on a 47-yard pass with about 23 seconds left in the half as Black tossed his third touchdown of the game hitting Daheem Knowles for the score. The Falcons converted a 2-point play, but Northwestern would take a 33-22 lead into the locker room.

The second half was all the Trojans as they pulled away on three passing touchdowns and one touchdown on the ground.

Nation Ford will now regroup and take on Richland Northeast in two weeks after having a bye next week. The Falcons will play next at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at home.
