The American Legion Post 43 Junior baseball team will have a new head coach come next summer.
Nation Ford head baseball coach Jeff Stack will be the Junior Legion head coach for Fort Mill Post 43. Stack accepted the job in late November. He will still be coaching Nation Ford’s baseball team during the school year, but will turn his attention to the Junior Legion program in the summer months.
Stack has been a part of American Legion baseball in Union County, NC before coming to Fort Mill when he took the Nation Ford job. He will be entering his second season with the Falcons this coming spring as head baseball coach.
“I have been a part of American Legion baseball most of my career,” Stack said. “I look forward to coaching talented athletes from in and around the area, but also the opportunity to win for our community and American Legion Post 43.”
Stack is the second ever Junior Legion coach for Post 43. Inaugural head coach Michael Lewis stepped down after the end of the 2023 season.
“I want to thank Coach Mike Lewis for his dedication over the past three years,” said Tom Skula, Post 43 Assistant Athletic Director and Head Senior Legion Coach. “Mike was an invaluable part in helping to get the Junior program off the ground. From day one, Coach Lewis brought strong leadership and a commitment to creating a successful program. He built a great culture that encompassed the utmost character and integrity. His passion was unmatched and his enthusiasm he brought to the ballpark was amazing to experience.”
Skula said he is eager to start working with Stack as part of the 2024 season.
“I am excited to get to work with Coach Stack as we continue to grow the Junior program,” he said. “Coach Stack brings a wealth of coaching experience and baseball knowledge. It was critical for our program to bring in someone that had enormous passion specifically for American Legion baseball. A coach that had experienced all the intangibles that comes with coaching Legion Baseball in the summer. His vision for our program checked all the boxes we were looking for in our next head coach. I’m excited to watch Jeff bring leadership, experience, and passion to our program.”
The American Legion season starts in May 2024.
