Nation Ford wrestling coach Tony Forte has stepped down from his head coaching position citing family and personal goals as his reason for resigning.

Forte resigned Tuesday, March 1 publicly after three years at the helm of the Falcons wrestling program. He still will be teaching High School 101 at Nation Ford.

“A lot of it is my girls are getting older and I will be pursuing a Master’s degree,” he said.

Forte has been in coaching for 20 years starting in the 2001-2002 season in New Jersey. His family moved down to the area in 2008 and he has served as an assistant at South Pointe and Fort Mill before becoming head coach at Myers Park in Charlotte and then at Nation Ford.

Forte’s father, Rocky, was the first wrestling coach the school ever had when they opened in 2007, allowing him to follow in his father’s footstep by coaching at the same school. The younger Forte said he will miss the relationships with the coaches and athletes he has formed over the years, but he isn’t vanishing completely.

“I won’t disappear,” he said. “But my coaching days are probably done.”
