Nation Ford golfers won the Region 3-5A tournament with a new school record of 293 at Edgewater Golf Course in Lancaster Monday.

LANCASTER – The Nation Ford boys’ golf team set a new school record in route to winning the Region 3-5A golf tournament at Edgewater Golf Club Monday.

Naton Ford shot a 293 as a team with three golfers making the All-Region team. Fort Mill was one shot back with a 294 and had three golfers make the All-Region team as well. Blythewood finished third with a 295 and Spring Valley was fourth with a 305.

The Falcons’ Justin Wosje was tied for medalist of the tournament with a three-under par 69 (33-36) to lead Nation Ford. Carter Smith finished with a one-over par 73 (39-34) and a Harrison Lapointe had a 74 (37-37) for the Falcons. Both Tyler Kemmerlin and Ben Wakefield both shot rounds of 77 for Nation Ford. Wakefield had a 42 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine, while Kemmerlin had a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine. Wosje, Smith and Lapointe each made the All-Region team.

Fort Mill was led by Mason Jaeckli with a 72 (35-37) and Baker Tolentino with a 72 (36-36), both of which made the All-Region team. Austin Anderson, who also made the All-Region team for Fort Mill, shot a one over 73 (38-35). David Harrigan finished out the scoring for Fort Mill with a 77 (40-37).

Both Fort Mill and Nation Ford advance to the 5A Upper State tournament in Anderson at Cobb’s Glen Country Club May 6, playing for a chance to make it to the 5A state tournament May 13-14 at the Country Club of Lexington.

In the 4A golf tournament, Catawba Ridge golfers finished second with a 310, one stroke behind winner Indian Land, which shot a 309, at Chester Golf Club.

The Copperheads were led by OT Mitchell, who shot a three-under 69 (33-36), to grab the medalist title. Catawba Ridge had three golfers make the All-Region team. Hunter Warren was second overall with a 73 (37-36) and Muller Otto finished eighth with an 81 (39-42), as they both made the All-Region team. Drew White finished the scoring for Catawba Ridge with an 87 (45-42).

Catawba Ridge advances to the 4A Upper State tournament at Edgewater Golf Club next Monday.

The Catawba Ridge baseball team won their opening round game in the 4A playoffs with a 4-0 win over Eastside. Caden Glauber pitched a complete game allowing six hits and one walk, while striking out 11. Sam Schwamb led going 3-3 at the plate as Owen Noonan and Britton Nash each had two hits. The Copperheads improved to 23-3 and will play next on May 1.
