Ben Mills for Nation Ford tees off on the 10th hole at Springfield Golf Club during the 5A Upper State golf tournament Monday.

Two of the three local golf teams will be competing for a state championship next week.

Both Nation Ford and Fort Mill will be in Spartanburg at the 5A state championship tournament at the Carolina Country Club May 15-16. Catawba Ridge failed to qualify for the 4A state championship in North Augusta, but will be sending one representative.

Boiling Springs won the 5A Upper State championship held at Springfield Golf Club Monday, but Nation Ford’s Ben Mills finished tied for first with Chapin’s Chase Cline with a four-under 68 (35-33).

As a team, Nation Ford shot a 307 tying for third with Chapin. Boiling Springs shot a 304. Besides Mills, Ben Wakefield shot a two-over 74 (38-36) and Justin Wosje shot an 81 (42-38). Both Tyler Kemmerlin and Harrison Lapointe each shot an 84. Kemmerlin shot a 43-41 and Lapointe shot a 44-40 during their rounds.

Fort Mill qualified for the 5A state tournament as well finishing eighth with a 319 as a team. Fort Mill was led by Cam Baker with a two over 74 (38-36). Mason Jaeckli was next for the Jackets with a 79 (37-42) followed by a pair of 83s from Baker Tolentino and David Harrigan. Both shot a 42-41 during the 18-hole tournament. Parker Harrigan finished with an 84 (42-42) for Fort Mill.

Catawba Ridge played their 18-hole 4A Upper State tournament at The Links at Stoney Point Golf Club in Greenwood and finished 12th as a team with a score of 348. The Copperheads were led by OT Mitchell with a 77 (37-40). Mitchell will be representing Catawba Ridge in the 4A tournament at The River Golf Club in North Augusta May 15-16 having qualified as an individual.

Mitchell’s scores were followed by an 82 (40-42) from Hunter Warren, a 91 (45-46) from Drew White and a 98 (47-51) from Killian Kirby for Catawba Ridge.

Fort Mill

The Fort Mill softball team fell 3-1 to Hillcrest in an elimination game on the road in the 5A state playoffs. Fort Mill got four hits, but made three errors in the game. Brooke Roserio and Vicki Lott each got two hits in the game for the Jackets. Lott also had the only RBI for Fort Mill. The Jackets finished the season with a 13-9 overall record.
