Nation Ford’s Ben Wakefield led the Falcons in winning the Fort Mill town championship Wednesday.

The Nation Ford Falcons won the Fort Mill town championship between the three local high schools Wednesday.

The teams played 18-holes at the Fort Mill Golf Club, which is a par 72 course.

Nation Ford was led by Ben Wakefield with a one over 73 as they shot 302 as a team. He was followed by a 76 from both Harrison Lapointe and Justin Wosje. Carter Smith finished the scoring for Nation Ford with a 77. The 302 score was three shots off a school record for the Falcons. 

Fort Mill was second with a 316 as they were led by Austin Anderson with a 75. Baker Tolentino was three shots behind with a 78, as David Harrigan finished with an 81 and Mason Jaeckli shot an 82 for the Jackets.

Catawba Ridge came in third with a 318, but had golfers with the two lowest rounds of any of the three teams. Hunter Warren shot a one-under 71 to win the tournament and was named medalist, as OT Mitchell shot an even par 72 for the Copperheads one stroke behind him. Niam Sethi had a round of 87 and Muller Otto finished with an 88 for the Copperheads.

Next week for all three teams is their respective region championship. Fort Mill and Nation Ford will play Monday, April 29 at Edgewater Golf Club in Lancaster County at the Region 3-5A tournament.

Catawba Ridge will be playing at Chester Golf Club as part of the Region 3-4A tournament also on Monday.

The Catawba Ridge softball team finished their Region 3-4A schedule with a 17-0 win over South Pointe to finish their region schedule at 10-0 and improve to 21-2 overall. Chloe Burger pitched a no-hitter in the game and head coach Michael Kidd picked up his 100th career win as Copperheads coach.

The Nation Ford softball team beat York 7-2 to improve to 13-5 overall on the season. Paizlei Ross and Kailey Alston each had two hits for the Lady Falcons. Nation Ford used three pitchers as they surrendered just two hits in the game. Alston or the win striking out three.

The Nation Ford baseball team finished their Region 3-5A schedule beating Rock Hill on the road 7-3.  Miles Baker pitched a complete game two hitter allowing three runs on three walks and striking out six. Cooper Mitchell and Alex Smith each had two hits. Justin brink had three RBIs and Jacob Pettit had two RBIs. The win put Nation Ford at 6-9 in the region and 11-12 overall on the season.

The Fort Mill baseball team finished their Region 3-5A schedule falling at home to Blythewood 5-3. Fort Mill collected five hits in the game. JB Walters and John Risk each went 1-3 with RBIs and Josh Patterson went 1-4 with an RBI. Fort Mill finished region play at 13-2 and are now 19-6 overall.

The Nation Ford girls’ soccer team beat Sun Valley 6-1 on the road to finish their regular season schedule. The Lady Falcons will carry a 11-7 overall record into the playoffs next week.
