Fort Mill’s Lila Wotring gets a hit during the Lady Jackets game against Boiling Springs Thursday evening.

The Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs doubled up Fort Mill in what could be a prelude to the softball playoffs next week.

The Bulldogs beat the Lady Jackets 13-6 at Fort Mill Thursday night dropping them to 5-11 on the season.

Both teams came out with hot bats combining for eight runs in the first inning. Boiling Springs jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Fort Mill came back with five in the bottom of the first. All the Jackets’ seven hits in the first were singles as Fort Mill batted around.

“I love the way we came out,” said Fort Mill head softball coach Skyler Holt. “That is the first time in a long time that we have scored five runs in the first inning. We just need to finish the game. That has been a struggle this year. It is a learning year, but it is a growing year too.”

The Bulldogs added one in the second inning to close the gap and make it 5-4. Boiling Springs started scoring in the third inning off hits and two Fort Mill errors as they scored two runs to take the lead.

The Jackets stayed competitive as they got runners on the corners in the bottom of the third inning with a double from Natalie Razum and a walk to Mary Dober, but couldn’t get them in.

A couple walks started things rolling for the Bulldogs as they would extend their lead in the fourth inning with another run.

Vicki Lott led the bottom of the fourth off with a double for Fort Mill. Lexi Verastegui would double as well with two outs to score Lott and cut into the Boiling Springs lead. But the one run was all the Jackets could add to their total in the inning.

Boiling Springs added to their run total in the top of the seventh with five runs off two doubles and a three-run home run.

Fort Mill used a trio of pitchers in the game. Delaney White got the start for the Jackets and went two innings. Elaina Hildebrand went the third and fourth inning and then Haley Rogers finished off the game pitching the final three innings.

Lott, Razum and Dober each had two hits and Reese Hill went 3-4 as Fort Mill outhit Boiling Springs 13-12. Razum and Verastegui each had two RBIs as well for the Jackets.

The Jackets finish the regular season at Indian Land on Friday, April 26.
