Nation Ford boys’ lacrosse coach Cory Turner told his team they will soon find out if the they are “contenders or pretenders.”

The Falcons are 10-0 on the season and recently clinched the Region 3-5A title, but next week their toughest stretch of the season is coming up.

“Next week will tell a lot about where we are,” Turner said. “It is hard to get a good grip on who we are.”

Nation Ford will be at Charlotte Country Day March 29, then host Clover in its final region game before heading to Dorman April 2 and Mauldin April 7. Turner said Mauldin will be a good test for Nation Ford as they are also undefeated on the season.

Turner said Nation Ford are contenders so far for a state championship, but the future still holds a lot of questions. The Falcons have home field advantage for the majority of the playoffs this season.

“If we play our game, Nafo can win a state championship this year,” he said. “If we don’t, we can be one and done.”

On Saturday, Nation Ford struggled to play the style of lacrosse they were accustom to in the first quarter, but found their path from the second quarter onward as they eventually blew the Spartanburg Vikings out 17-6.

The Falcons trailed Spartanburg 4-3 after the opening quarter. The second and third quarters were all Nation Ford as they scored 12 consecutive goals to go up 15-4. Nation Ford scored five goals in the second quarter to go up 8-4 at the half and then scored another six goals in the third quarter to take a 14-4 lead, before opening the fourth quarter with a goal as well.

Nation Ford was led by Ashton Tauzin who scored six goals in the game. Tyler DeMarco and Hunter Nickola each scored three goals in the game as well for the Falcons. Luke Letterhos scored two goals and Josh Ameo, Trevor Keaton and Jackson Brown all scored single goals in the game also for Nation Ford.

The Falcons game March 31 against Clover will be their last regular season home game before hosting the playoffs starting next month.
