Fort Mill wrestler TJ Miller won the 182-pound weight class at the Southern Slam at Eastside High Saturday.

Miller won a 3-0 decision over Eastside’s Baron Leonard in the tournament finals and Fort Mill finished ninth out of 38 teams in one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the state.

The Jackets’ Henry Debbout fell in the 220-pound finals against Lugoff-Elgin’s Jonathan Sirard as the only other local finalist.

Aidan Eubanks finished fourth at 126-pounds and Noah Kitchton finished sixth at 145-pounds in the tournament as well for Fort Mill.

For Nation Ford, Clayton Rygol finished sixth in the tournament for the Falcons at 220-pounds.

Catawba Ridge spent the weekend wrestling at Irmo High School in the Palmetto Classic. The Copperheads finished third overall with multiple placers.

Alex Teel finished second in the 113-pound weight class and Jake Kees finished second as well in the 145-pound weight class.

In the consolation bracket, the Copperheads had four place either third or fourth. Jarrett Eubanks won to finish third at 170-pounds, as did Tony Atkins at heavyweight. Levi Jones also finished third in the 138-pound bracket. Sean Barstad fell at 160-pounds to finish fourth in his weight class.

At the middle school level, the Fort Mill middle school wrestling team traveled to Chester for a tournament and came away with nine winners. Winning for Fort Mill was Evan Sibert, Cooper Van Beynum, Morrison Murphy, Cole Wartinger, Ethan Cates, Lincoln Marks, Cooper Diehl, Mason Metcalf and Vincent D’Amico.

Finishing second was Broden Mitcheson, Wyatt Gremillion, Patrick Gray, Padyn Gossett, and Gabe Sipe and taking third place was Liam Dayton, Piercen Harms, Gavin Love and Connor Webster.
