INDIAN LAND – While the Nation Ford girls’ basketball team cruised to a win to improve to 3-1 overall, the boy’s team lost a heartbreaker in overtime.

The Nation Ford girls won 59-31 beating Indian Land Friday night on the road. Both Camille Kerridge and Kayla Wilmore each dropped in 16 points to lead the Falcons. Jalyn Bennett added 11 points in the win for Nation Ford.

Nation Ford got off to a good start going up 18-6 after the first quarter as Wilmore scored 12 of her 16 points in the opening quarter. The Falcons started the game 5-0 and never looked back. Earlier in the week, Nation Ford missed their scheduled game because the majority of the team was sick with the flu.

“We are becoming one,” said Falcons’ head coach Kelly Bennett. “This week everyone was out through Thursday. We are beginning to understand each other’s game. We are continuing to believe in each other.”

Kerridge dropped in six points in the second quarter and extended the Falcons lead to go up 30-12 at the half.

In the second half, Indian Land outscored Nation Ford 11-10 in the third quarter, as the Falcons struggled some shooting the ball. Bennett scored five of her 11 points as Nation Ford held a 40-23 lead after the third quarter.

Nation Ford rebounded in the fourth quarter as they outscored Indian Land 19-10. Morgan Beuchlein scored the last two points in the game for the Falcons.

Indian Land 83, Nation Ford 80 (overtime)

The Falcons dropped a close game with a near last second 3-pointer by the Indian Land Warriors in overtime.

The game was a shooting dual between the Warriors’ Mike Jones and Nation Ford’s JJ Rembert. Rembert scored 39 points and Jones scored 35 points in the win.

Indian Land outscored Nation Ford 8-5 in overtime as the game entered the extra frame tied at 75. Frank Petre IV hit a 3-pointer with about three seconds left to give the Warriors the win.

Nation Ford rallied in the second half after being down 35-29 at the half and outscored Indian Land 28-19 in the third quarter to take a three-point lead at 57-54. Rembert scored 14 points in the third quarter and Sheldon Joseph dropped in eight of his 22 points in the quarter also.

Indian Land opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to go up 62-57, before Nation Ford rallied to tie the game at 63.

The Warriors outscored Nation Ford 21-18 in the fourth quarter that ended up tying the game. In overtime, Nation Ford hit just one of six shots, while Indian Land hit two of three shots and was very selective with their approach.

Up next for Nation Ford is a road game at Catawba Ridge next Tuesday. The Falcons fell to 1-5 overall with the loss.
