The Fort Mill High School wrestling team was a late add to the Rumble on the River in North Augusta and came away winning the event.
Fort Mill scored 227 points to win the event and had three champions come from the event. Lincoln Greene, Ted Ernst and Brody Harris all won their respective weight classes.
Harris won at 106-pounds with a 12-2 major decision in the finals. Greene won at 138-pounds with a 16-0 tech fall in the finals and Ernst won at 190-pounds by a 17-1 tech fall as well in the finals.
Fort Mill had six other wrestlers place in the event. Broden Mitcheson (157) and Grayson Wallen (126) each finished second, while Jayden Nguyen (144) and Keenan Coston (150) finished third. Krystan Villatoro (215) finished fifth and Jonathan DaSilva (hwt.) finished sixth.
Nation Ford’s Derek Van Sandwyk and Catawba Ridge’s Alex Johnson won titles Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Demon Holiday Classic at Lugoff-Elgin High School.
Van Sandwyk won at 190-pounds and Johnson won at 215-pounds. Nation Ford finished 11th with 95 points and Catawba Ridge finished eighth with 122.5 points.
This is the third tournament of the season that Johnson was won for Catawba Ridge. Johnson got a 2-1 decision over Irmo’s Ethan Gamble in the finals.
Taylon Winkler finished second at 113-pounds for Catawba Ridge. Jacob McClure finished fourth at 106-pounds for Catawba Ridge as well. The Copperheads had Archer Rozelle (157) and Cole Stukitz (150) finish in fifth place, while Ryan Stukitz (165) and Clark Ostendorf (157) finished sixth in their weight classes.
Nation Ford had three wrestlers place in the tournament besides Van Sandwyk. Danny Gilstorf finished second at 144-pounds and won his 100th career match during the tournament. Easton Ruth (106) finished fifth and Jace Smith (150) finished sixth.

The Fort Mill girls’ basketball team improved to 7-5 on the season with a 63-47 win over Westwood in the Christmas Classic at Lexington High School on Dec. 21. Natyia Parker led with 16 points for the Lady Jackets.
The Catawba Ridge boys’ basketball team improved to 4-6 on the season with a 47-43 win over Mallard Creek on Dec. 21 in the Border Classic at Independence High School. Mark Caslaru led Catawba Ridge with 10 points.
The Nation Ford boys’ basketball team won 52-49 over the Butler Bulldogs in the Border Classic at Independence High School on Dec. 21 to improve to 3-6 on the season.
