Fort Mill’s No. 1 singles player Zach Dodson returns a shot during his match at Catawba Ridge Monday afternoon.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets boys’ tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season with a shutout victory over Catawba Ridge.

Fort Mill got the 6-0 win over the Copperheads in straight sets for each match. Despite the straight set wins, Catawba Ridge battled the Jackets closely in all but three sets.

Zack Dodson won at No. 1 singles for Fort Mill over Alex Macaulay 6-1, 6-0 and Simon Huertas del Pino won for Fort Mill at No. 2 singles over the Copperheads’ Devin Hartzog 6-4,6-4.

Fort Mill’s No. 3 singles Connor Hilsmier beat Eric Finley 6-4, 6-0 and No. 4 singles for the Jackets’ Chase Harris won 6-1, 6-2 over Aiden Lilies for Catawba Ridge.

Dillon Frasier won at No. 5 singles for Fort Mill 6-2, 6-0 over Sammy Mullis for the Copperheads. In No. 2 doubles, the Jackets’ Ryan Lake and Noah Bogucki won 6-3, 6-1 over Cade Gainey and Koen Tesamale.

Fort Mill has two more matches this week, both Region 3-5A competition as they travel to Clover and to Nation Ford. The Copperheads are scheduled to host South Pointe Tuesday at home and then travel to York April 1.

Lacrosse

Fort Mill girls’ lacrosse team beat Charlotte Country Day 11-10 to improve to 7-3 overall. They are next scheduled to play March 31 against Providence Day.

The Nation Ford boys’ lacrosse team edged Dorman 18-14 to improve to 7-2 overall. They are scheduled to play Fort Mill March 31 next.

Golf

Nation Ford boys’ golf team beat York and Northwestern in a tri-match. The Falcons shot a 187, as the Trojans shot a 189 and York shot a 196. Nation Ford was led by a 42 from Gabe Schmitz, followed by a pair of 48s from TJ Miller and Matt Bowman. Harrison LaPointe finished the scoring with a 49.

Baseball

All three local teams came out on the wrong end of their games Monday.

Nation Ford lost to Boiling Springs 6-4 and will play them again Tuesday evening at home in the second of a three-game series. The loss puts the Falcons at 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 3-5A.

Fort Mill fell 4-2 to Clover in its first region game of the season.  The loss drops the Jackets to 4-4 overall. Fort Mill heads to Clover for game two March 31.

Catawba Ridge fell to York 5-0 in game one of its three game Region 3-4A series. The loss puts the Copperheads at 2-1 in the region and 5-3 overall. They are scheduled to play York on the road today.
