The Fort Mill Lady Jackets soccer team cruises to a region win against the Northwestern Trojans without any issues.
Fort Mill won 6-0 improving to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 3-5A. The Jackets head coach Ralph Latchana said he would like to see more aggression out of his team during certain points in the match.
“We are well ahead of where we were last year in terms of playing style and culture,” he said. “I would like to be more ruthless in the final third. We do raise our games against some of the better teams we play against. I am happy with how they are playing and training. If we peak at the right moments, that will come in the next two or three weeks.”
Fort Mill started out controlling possession early and got their first real opportunity off of a corner about two minutes into play. The Jackets got their second corner at the eight-minute mark in the first half, but still came up empty.
The Jackets maintained control through much of the first 15 minutes of play, but was unable to find a clear shot past the Trojans defense.
A cross down the right side about a minute later found Lainey Bathrick for Fort Mill who was able to score 16 minutes into play.
The Jackets continued to hold possession after the goal and had several more chances throughout the first half.
At the 18th minute, the Jackets continued to pepper the goal. Talia Roppatte scored for Fort Mill off a deflection to double up the score for the Jackets.
Five minutes later, Fort Mill went ahead by three goals with a score from Elisa Montauti.
The Jackets would add one more goal off the foot of Kendall Clark with about 30 seconds to play in the first half to put Fort Mill ahead 4-0.
The second half started without the Jackets relinquishing possession as they kept shooting in the early going, despite not being able to find the goal.
Fort Mill finally broke through at the 54th minute as Bathrick squared up and scored her second goal of the match. Also getting her second goal of the match about 14 minutes later was Clark in the 69th minute to put the Jackets up 6-0.
