Nation Ford’s Kailey Alston pitched well for the Falcons, but a lack of run support hurt her cause against Blythewood Monday night.

The 2022 softball season for the Nation Ford Falcons has been a little bit of a back-and-forth battle.

Now sitting at 6-5 on the season, the Falcons dropped their most recent game 5-1 to the Blythewood Bengals Monday night. While Nation Ford didn’t play bad, it was two big innings that caused hurt the Falcons.

“We made some untimely mistakes and they made some timely hits,” said Nation Ford head coach Craig Brown.

Kailey Alston got the start in the circle for Nation Ford and allowed five runs on 11 hits, but also managed to control her pitches for the most part. She didn’t allow a walk and struck out seven. The biggest struggle for the Falcons in the game was that they failed to give Alston any run support and managed just four hits in the game.

Nation Ford’s Olivia Southerly led the Falcons going 2-3 in the game, while Emma Skovran and Abigail Loser got the other two hits for the Falcons.

Southerly is just one of three seniors for Nation Ford, which includes an eighth grader and three freshmen on the roster for the Falcons.

“We are young,” Brown said. “We got talent, but it can’t take any plays off.”

After a hit in the first inning and one in the fifth, Nation Ford was able to prevent the shutout as Skovran led off the inning with a single in the bottom of the sixth.  An error allowed Ava Scheier to reach base and Skovran to score preventing the shutout. Southerly would reach on her second hit of the game but would be left stranded to end the inning.

Nation Ford is scheduled to play Buford Wednesday, but rain in the forecast may change those plans. They are scheduled to play Clover at home Friday. The Falcons are 1-1 in Region 3-5A play this season.
