The Catawba Ridge Copperheads baseball team picked up its 20th win of the season with an 11-2 win Friday night.

Catawba Ridge used a big second inning to score eight runs and take an 8-1 lead never looking back over the Carolina Royals. The win puts the Copperheads at 20-5 overall on the season.

The Royals scored a run in the top of the second, only to have Catawba Ridge score those eight runs on five hits in the bottom half of the inning.

Tyler Levy led the bottom of the inning off by reaching on an error, before Lane Boutwell drove him in during the next at-bat with a single. Jake McCoy would double later in the inning to score three runs for the Copperheads to put them up 5-1. Harrison Wilson would then single to drive in McCoy as Catawba Ridge would bat around in the inning. Levy would drive in a run on a sacrifice and Boutwell would drive another run in as well to put the score at 8-1.

Neither team were able to make anything happen over the next two innings, but the Copperheads would score two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Silvers tripled in the inning to drive in Levy to start the scoring in the inning. Wyatt Wilson would single to drive in Silvers before Catawba Ridge would get out of the inning.

In the sixth inning, Trevor Testerman would score on a passed ball giving the Copperheads their only run of the inning.

Boutwell led the way at the plate for Catawba Ridge going 2-3 with two RBI. Wilson got the win on the mound going four innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven hitters.

Up next for Catawba Ridge is their regular season final at Fort Mill Saturday at 1 p.m. They will open the playoffs May 3 hosting Westwood.

In other games…

The Fort Mill softball team improved to 11-5 overall with a 13-1 win over rivals Nation Ford to capture the Region 3-5A title. The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Yellow Jackets scored 13 runs to blow things open. Fort Mill hit three home runs in the sixth inning. Trinity Wall went 2-2 with 4 RBI and Vicki Lott went 3-4 with 4 RBI as well for the Jackets in the win.

The Catawba Ridge softball team beat Rock Hill 10-0 as Chloe Berger pitched a one hitter and struck out 12. The Copperheads are now 20-3 overall on the season.

The Nation Ford Falcons baseball team lost to Boiling Springs 15-8 to finish fourth in Region 3-5A and will travel to Blythewood next week to open the playoffs. Nation Ford currently sits at 7-19 on the season.

Fort Mill baseball team beat Gaffney 13-7 Thursday night to finish the region at 5-7. They are now 17-7 overall. They will open the playoffs next week at Spring Valley.
