Catawba Ridge’s Claire Hivner returns the ball during her match against Northwestern Monday afternoon.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads stayed undefeated on the tennis season with a 4-2 over the Northwestern Trojans.

The win now puts the Copperheads at 3-0 on the season. Catawba Ridge dropped two matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but was able to bounce back and win four others.

Both of the losses were in straight sets, and all four wins for the Copperheads were in straight sets. Sarah Taylor lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for Catawba Ridge and Claire Hivner lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Copperheads.

Catawba Ridge started winning at No. 3 singles as Aiyana Uter won 6-3, 6-4. Sara Maleady won at No. 4 singles for the Copperheads by a score of 6-0, 6-2 and Lilly L’esperance won at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-1.

In the only doubles match at No. 2 doubles, Mallory McCart and Katherine Koehl won 6-3, 7-6 (12-10) to clinch the win for Catawba Ridge.

The Copperheads’ next scheduled match is today at home against South Pointe to open their Region 3-4A schedule.
